Now There's Something You Don't See Every Day (Part 2)

In case you missed it, a few weeks back I did a photo blog post showing many of the interesting things that we see here in Thailand that you don't see in the US. But there are still so many things to show you - so here is the second installment of "Now There's Something You Don't See Every Day!"

A bicycle taxi

Working with bamboo

Yes, those are fluorescent lights attached to the construction sign.

Altars for worshipping Buddha and the spirits, outside of the Big C (which is like a WalMart)

Food lines at a large Karen gathering - trestle tables are set up,
and everyone walks through the line and then stands and eats

People give food offerings to the Buddhist monks

L to R - Longkan, rambutan, and rose apples

This stock photo shows how Thai people (and those of us living here) greet each other, with the traditional "wai." Any picture of this would be staged, as you usually don't take pictures while saying hello!

Ronald McDonald is very polite and greets customers with the wai. He also wears a black ribbon to show respect on the passing of the king.

OK, so maybe some of you do still see these in the US...but on EVERY block?

You can flavor them up however you like, but Kyle still won't eat peas

Double decker tourist buses like these, painted with wild designs, are common all over the country

Little lizard on our ceiling - a common sight in all houses in Thailand (we call ours Freds)

A place to rest out of the hot sun

Yeah...power lines hanging down into the street

Here, men climb bamboo ladders and sit on the power lines to fix them.

Cow?

Water bottles line the fence of a yard - I really have no idea why they do this!

Vendor selling flower offerings at an intersection - people hang them from the rear-view mirrors, but I'm not sure why; it might have something to do with Buddhism, or it could just be to look pretty (but we were told not to do it!)
